Went to the Pirate Bar in Stillwater yesterday to celebrate Talk Like A Pirate Day. Basically everyone was there.
The food was a bit odd (Jamaican rather than the familiar Southern-style BBQ), but my mojito was tasty and the rum selection was impressive. There were free jalapenos for the daring — very spicy, obviously. And Lawrentians will be pleased to hear that they had three different varieties of Appleton Estate rum, the official drink of Mayor Hanna. No one walked the plank — their three-shot combo — but I certainly wasn't going to. Not a fan of shots.
It was a bit of a trek to get there, so I'm not sure I'll go back unless I'm in the area. Still, it was a pretty good time. Talk Like A Pirate Day doesn't yet rival Halloween or Thanksgiving or even the 4th, but it's gaining ground as one of my favorite secular holidays.
