So yesterday night I watched Reeker, a well-produced nothing of a horror movie. Appearances of the monster are preceded by this wavy CGI smell effect, hence the title.
The movie had a few smart bits of dialogue, most of it in scenes with the blind character. It also had one or two good horror movie setups.
My favorite was the bathroom scene. There's a lot of movies where people hide in toilet stalls, standing on top so their feet can't be seen, but this movie added a twist: the toilet had one of those optical sensors on the back, so the guy had to remain in position so that it wouldn't automatically flush. Better tension through technology.
Notable: this makes the least sense of any horror movie I've ever seen. The ending attempts to tie everything together (it's actually somewhat clever, b.t.w.), but I don't think it's successful — certainly not entirely. Reeker could easily support its own school of apologetics.
