Today I got to take a break; it was nice. Otherwise this week has been pretty exhausting — there was ANTM on Wednesday, as usual, and Thanksgiving up at the farm on Thursday, and then pizza, beer, and Knocked Up over here on Friday. And last night I saw the Lion King musical with my family.
This is all good stuff, but we introverts need solitude to power our fuel cells. And some of us introverts would like to play Mass Effect after waiting months and months. I'm still on mission two.
Work was crazy this week, too; we were short-staffed every day. Though I was the problem on Monday, leaving early — more on that in a day or two.
I had some issues with the Lion King. Was it Shrek that ruined For General Audiences humor? The Lion King had good parts, even great parts, but all the bathroom humor was too lowbrow for me. Oh look, the hyena is pretending to pee! Hilarious!
And would someone tell comedy writers that leaving out the dirty part of a punchline does not mean that the joke works on multiple levels? I've never understood how they expect kids to react to those: there's clearly something missing. Maybe kids are idiots.
For those who do think it's inherently funny to see kids not get the joke, you'll be happy to know that I heard the season's first rendition of "I Saw Mommy Kissing Santa Claus" on the radio today. Some days that song just seems cruel.
I'm not sure when to put up the Christmas stuff, probably December. I'm not one of those no peas in the potatoes types, but I do like a little break between holiday seasons. Another week then, a quiet one.
(I met a lot of pro-Thanksgiving people this week, but no one was willing to defend the 4th of July as a holiday. Submitted: grilling, cold beers, explosions, and no obligation to spend the day with anyone you don't want to see. It's an incredibly casual holiday compared to Thanksgiving or New Year's Eve or Halloween, but that's part of the charm.)
