For those who continue to doubt either the new "golden age of television" or the ability of t.v. to create art, I humbly present: the whisky scene from tonight's episode. Truly beautiful if you know the series.
The big event recently was of course St. Patrick's day. The night was somewhat blah, but at noon on Saturday Markie and I walked to the Nomad in Minneapolis for a good old fashioned "bladderbuster." Basically, they closed the doors at noon and beer was free for everyone until someone left or went to the bathroom.
Considering how many of us were in the bar, this was a good group. We lasted for an hour and fifteen minutes, and one girl spent those last few minutes making a valiant attempt to keep her friend from the bathroom while the rest of us tried to flag down the bartender. Props to said girl.
Here's us at some point:
A good time was had, and Markie and I drank... hard to say. My estimate keeps changing because the bartender refilled our drinks whenever they were less than 3/4 full, which made it very hard to keep track. I drank at least six free beers; Markie had at least five. Probably it was more, and we each paid for another beer once Graham and his g/f stopped by (and to their credit, drove us home).
While I am (notoriously?) thifty, the real fun was in the spectacle, and in being able to sit around with someone and get somewhat drunk without a lot of the usual stress you get in the Cities (e.g. who'll drive, etc.). I'd like to think that Markie and I bonded as only two people committed to getting drunk can. People so often underestimate the adhesive value of drunk talk.
Jubb also reports that I called him three times.
Drunkenly oblivious to the unreliability of Cities-folk, Markie and I hatched a plan to get everyone together at around six for dinner and then bar hop. It fell through but we ended up having some very delicious/expensive German food.
On Monday there was a de facto b-day party for Dave. Also pretty fun, though we didn't stay long and I caught a slight cold, easily vanquished, sometime that night.
